Ofcom announcement

Earlier in the year we discussed non geographic numbers and the changes around the 0870 number range. At the time of writing this was due to take effect on the 1st of February 2008. Due to an Ofcom announcement at an industry event at the end of October this date has now slipped to later in 2008. Ofcom are unlikely to be able confirm dates at this stage, however it is likely to be around May-June of 2008.

0871 numbers were due to be rebranded PhonePayPlus, early in 2008, this date has also been delayed to later in 2008 and it is likely to take place in the summer time.

In addition 070 numbers should have had a pre-call announcement attached to them, under a new regulation. Ofcom is reviewing this due to Health & Safety issues around pre-call announcements, as such we are not going to be releasing these numbers until these issues have been resolved.

Telinet is working closely with Ofcom to ensure we know what is happening around the changed number range and we will continue to keep you informed on all of the different aspects of this. These changes and delays are being made by Ofcom and we have no control over them.
