Do I have to pay a licence for Music on Hold?
Bored waiting provides "Royalty Free" music. It is the alternative to the compulsory PPL and PRS licence fees required for playing any artists with a formal release (such as Robbie and Kylie for example). The playing of this music as background music on hold through a telephone system constitutes as "public performance" and therefore royalties are due to the artists and composers of the recording being played.
PPL is the music industry organisation collecting public performance royalties on artist’s behalf. PRS is the music industry organisation collecting public performance on behalf of the songwriter. Both licences are yearly and prone to adjustment.
